After 6 agonizing months of waiting for College Football to return, the day has finally arrived and the first game we get is Florida State vs Georgia Tech. If you are like me, you probably spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why it was the only game you could find to watch in that time slot, and that is because this is the only game that will be played during this time.

After being left out of the playoff last year, the Seminoles came into this game with a weight on their shoulders. They know that if they want to make the playoffs this year, they must leave no doubt. They entered the game ranked number 10 in the country, but I think its safe to assume they have their eyes on the top 5.

Florida came out red hot on their first drive putting up 6 points and added the 2 point conversion for good measure, and it only took them 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

Not wanting to be outdone, Georgia Tech came back with an equal amount of energy and veracity and drove down the field in less than 4 minutes and scored a touchdown of their own. There was a point in the drive where they had run 4 plays and had 3 first downs.

Zach Pyron (the backup QB) ended the drive with a QB draw, and Georgia Tech decided to kick the field goal instead of going for 2, making the game 8-7 (Florida State).

If this is the type of football we get to look forward to, this might be the single greatest season for college football in history.

Florida State got the ball with a chance to extend their lead and, with around 6 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter faced the first 3rd down for either team. They converted the important down and kept marching down the field. The drive later stalled out after a failed 4th and 4 attempt, and Georgia Tech took over with decent field position.

FSU’s defense decided to show up and came up with a stop on the next drive and the Seminoles took over in their side of the field.

After such a fast start for both offenses, the defenses both ramped it up a notch. If it wasn’t for a face mask call following a sack on 3rd and 15th, Florida State would’ve gone 3 and out, but they started with a fresh set of downs after the penalty. FSU was able to add 3 points to their lead, making the game 11-7.

Georgia Tech had a chance to score and take the lead, but a bad pass cost a wide open touchdown for his receiver Singleton Jr. They still were able to score a TD on the drive, opting to stick with their physical run game, and making the score 14-11 after the PAT.

FSU was able to move into range for a long field goal (59 yards) and put 3 points on the board before half, making the score all tied up at 14 heading to halftime.

This led to the first bad beat in the college football season.

Quote of the week

“People ask me what I do in the summer when there’s no football. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for fall.”
