The 49ers started the game out by overthinking the game plan. Instead of feeding the hot hand that is Jordan Mason, Kyle Shanahan decided to call 3 straight pass plays that ended in a 3 and out.
The game continued with the Vikings showing why they are one of the only teams in the NFC that matches up well with the 49ers on the first big play of the day, a blocked punt that almost went for a touchdown.
The Vikings were able to add 3 points and take the early 3-0 lead.
The Vikings defense continued to slow down the 49ers attack until the key for down in three when Kyle Shanahan dialed up a pass to Juaun Jennings for 25 yards.
Jordan Mason continued to earn his spot as RB1 in fantasy leagues, running with a purpose for much of the drive until Kyle Shanahan went for it on 4th down from the 2 yard line, and decided to throw (incomplete).
Then Darnold decided to throw a 97 yard BOMB to Justin Jefferson 😳
The Vikings were driving again with the 49ers defense, unable to stop them until Fred Warner came up with a huge interception over the middle. Could be the plan that saves the day if Kyle Shanahan could score.
The 49ers were finally able to score on a screen pass to George Kittle, who bulldozed his way into the end zone.
The Vikings were not satisfied with their three-point lead and decided to try to put more points on the board before half.
That’s when Nick Bosa came up with a huge sack against Sam Darnold.
The Vikings were able to move into field goal range, added 3 to their lead and went into the half up 13-7 after an exciting first half.
The Vikings started the 2nd half with the ball, and went through and out after Sam Darnold got called for intentional grounding on a play that would’ve lost about 15 yards.
The 49ers needed to capitalize on the next drive which they started from the 35 yard line. They started off with a strong run by Jordan Mason for 9 yards and you could tell he’s ready to have a day. He’s already at 81 yards at the beginning of the third-quarter. He has a chance to break 100 for the second straight week.
The drive stalled out after Purdy took a stupid sack on a play where he had juice wide-open for at least a positive play, and the Vikings took back over.
Bosa came up with a huge sack that ended the drive.
Brock Purdy gave the ball right back on another questionable throw in the traffic that was tipped around before intercepted.
The Vikings score on the very next playoff throw from Sam Darnold at Jalan Nailor.
Brock Purdy continued to take sack after sack and move the ball backwards more often than forward. Brandon Aiyuk finally decided he wanted to play today and got his first catch to finally get another first down in the second half.
Every time the 49ers were able to get moving Purdy took another sack. On a 3rd and 15 he threw another stupid pass that was intercepted.
This game is out of hand and the 49ers should just put Brandon Allen at this point. Better yet they could’ve kept Sam Darnold as a back up instead of letting him go to the Vikings and being beat by the him next season.
In a strange turn of events, Nick Bosa, and Justin Jefferson both went down on the same play. the shit show of the game continued on, when they both walked off the field.
Apparently, Kittle was also taken to the locker room for an IV, but that was not showing on the live broadcast. Aaron Jones fumbled the ball going into the end zone, this game is not over. The 49ers got the ball at their own 1 yard line, but they prevented the score.
Fred Warner punched the ball out on another critical play for the future Hall of Famer.
Brock Purdy‘s best throw of the day came on a throw to Deebo Samuel on third down. Jordan Mason made the game 14-20 on a touchdown to the right side.
The 49ers defense just needed one more stop, and Fred Warner had a look in his eyes.
Justin Jefferson was in the locker room assumably out for the game. Sam Darnold made a couple impressive throws and moved into 49ers territory, milking the clock and killing the hopes of a 49ers come back.
The 49ers defense was unable to make a stand and the Vikings and they added three more points to their lead, making the game 23-14 and almost out of reach. It would take a miracle for the 49ers to win this game. And today, Brock Purdy is no miracle man.
The 49ers drove the ball downfield with a chance to score but the two minute warning was approaching so they need to score before or otherwise the clock might be an issue. They were unable to score, and Deebo was hurt on a play in a game that was out of reach.
Jake Moody added three points to the game, making it 23-17, and it all came down to a desperation onside-kick.
The attempt was unsuccessful, and the Vikings could not run out the clock as the fans went crazy in Minnesota.
A very humbling loss for the Kyle Shanahan lead, 49ers, and much of the blame can fall directly on the offense.
